This is the story, different in detail but no different in kind from many others, of one provincial who came to Fleet Street when it was Fleet Street, went away for a short while, and then returned for good. Much of the book was written from memory. Fleet Street Round the Clock is about newspaper life before laptops replaced typewriters and hot metal was relegated to the past. Those were the days when Fleet Street, the real Fleet Street -- was the goal of every young journalist with an ounce of ambition. The sense of learning the craft of writing for a newspaper was paramount.
