This is a hilarious and surprising story about a moody little puffin who encounters a lot of unpleasant and irritating situations in "his" book. Yes, he realizes we are reading about him and he is not happy about it! Puffin wishes we would just focus our attention on penguins and stop asking him to eat silly things just because they rhyme with his name. This would be a fun fiction and non-fiction book lesson and who knows, maybe this little Puffin wouldn't mind that pairing! (Ages 5-6) -- Midwest Book Review, Children's Bookwatch
If You Give the Puffin a Muffin is funny, witty, and just plain smart. The visual jokes make the book, and the curmudgeonly Puffin is too much fun to read and follow. The endpapers naturally, all different types of muffins let readers in on the joke early on. This ones a good storytime book, and offers a fun chance to have readers spot characters and moments they recognize from other books. A fun add! -- Rosemary Kiladitis, Mom Read It

Kids are going to giggle and chortle all the way through, If You Give the Puffin a Muffin. On par with Youngs previous picture books, it is fun and clever with references to the authors other titles, as well as other childrens classics. The adults in the room will grin when they spy the book Puffin is holding in the first few pages: So Long, a Thanks for All the Fish by Douglas Adams. This reviewer wont give away the rest of the punny book titles, but readers bewareit may be a challenge to name them all! -- New York Journal of Books

I adore Timothy Young's books. I think we have the same sense of humour. His books are witty and full of emotion, humour and most of all.... fun. The illustrations are crisp, clear and a perfect marriage to the storyline. I highly recommend this book and all his other ones too. They are reading treats. -- Storywraps (5-star review)
