High pressure diecasting (HPDC), in which molten metal is injected at high velocity into a die cavity, now accounts for over half of all aluminium castings world-wide. This manufacturing process has proved particularly suitable for the mass production of components, notably those with complex shapes. Due to the low costs associated with mass production, HPDC is also favoured for use in the transport sector. This book gives an overview of the new technology and presents analyses for cases where substantial cost savings and weight reductions appear possible.
