This volume brings together cutting edge research, critical commentary and candid, personal accounts in a rich array of fresh perspectives on the dimensions of race and racism that have been prevalent in many societies (for instance, in education, other sectors of human resource development and mainstream versus minority life experiences). Contributions from countries and settings worldwide illustrate the diversity of experiences and situations regarding race that have existed in a given time period, and the complexity of injustice issues wherein race is one of many interrelated and entwined factors contributing to a situation in a given society. Furthermore, this collection brings together cases in a wide range of settings, both in developed countries of the north and in developing countries and post-colonial states of the south, and a spread of perspectives from established scholars as well as new emerging scholars. The different cases reveal universal issues and common threads, and also contextually shaped distinctive features within different countries. Dr Diane Brook Napier is a specialist in Comparative and International Education, now retired from the University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia, USA where she was an Associate Professor in the College of Education and a member of the UGA Institute of African Studies. Born and raised in South Africa; she now resides in the United States. Her research and teaching specialties focus on post-colonial educational reform and democratic transformation policies and their implementation. She has conducted field research on these issues most extensively in South Africa, and she is a long time member of the South African Institute of Race Relations. She has also conducted research in Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Somalia, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Costa Rica, Cuba and the UAE. Her research focuses on issues of globalization of education, reform policy-practice; race and deracialisation, ideology, language, justice/injustice, human resources development (in education, health, housing, water supply, labor), also migrant and refugee issues, environmental justice, and teacher education. She has published widely in refereed journals and in collections of research, and she has edited numerous volumes of international comparative education research. She served as Secretary-General of the World Council of Comparative Education Societies (WCCES) from 2012-2014.
