Jan Hallebeek will become emeritus in April 2019. That will mark an end to his professional career as Researcher and Lecturer on a Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences post (1989-1999), as Professor Extraordinarius at the Theological Faculty of the University of Utrecht (1997-2006), and as Professor on the Chair of Legal History at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (from 1999 onwards). These positions reflect two focal points of his research: on the one hand Church history and Canon Law, on the other hand classical and particularly medieval Roman law and their history. They matched very felicitously his engagement for and in the Old-Catholic Church. The contributions centre on the themes and questions the honorand has pursued in his work till now.

Martin Schermaier is professor of Roman and civil law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn.

Dr. J. Harry Dondorp has been a lecturer at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands since 1979. He researches the history of European private law and medieval canon law.

A.J.B. Sirks studied law in Leiden and habilitated in 1984 at the University of Amsterdam with 'Food for Rome'. From 1998 to 2006 professor of ancient legal history, European private law history and civil law at the JW Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, from 2006 to 2014 Regius Professor of Civil Law at the University of Oxford. Research focus: classical Roman law, late antique law (especially Codex Theodosianus here), Byzantine law, Roman-Dutch law of the 18th century (especially Bijnkershoek), colonial law in the area of the former VOC (East India and Ceylon).
