Guillaume Apollinaire’s poetry is examined here from different angles. This does not correspond to the usual practice, which aims at the homogeneous image of an author who is only enthusiastic about modernity. Such one-sidedness is avoided in the twelve contributions. Moreover, they are devoted to hitherto neglected questions. Thus, comparative considerations, the reweighting of the Rhineland poems, the mixing of writing techniques and the transgression of autofictional content towards basic existential questions are striking facets of changing modes of observation. Consequently, a partly unusual physiognomy of the poet emerges, who in his poetic writing seems to stand less for the conflict between "old" and "new" than for the mutual interpenetration of both.
