Weapons of mass destruction have the potential to kill thousands of people in a single attack. To improve national efforts to detect and combat weapons of mass destruction, the Department of Homeland Security set up its Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office (CWMD). CWMD and Office of Health Security (OHS) play a crucial role in fortifying our defenses against threats that could pose considerable harm to our communities. CWMD improves our capability to plan for, detect, and guard against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats.
