My First Emergency is a Must-Have Children's Book Series!

It can be hard trying to find different ways to educate children about emergencies and safety in a way that is fun and engaging. The 'My First Emergency' book series offers the perfect way to do just that. This series is a light and insightful collection that educates children about the world of emergency services whilst also making it entertaining and memorable for them! 

Each book in the series tells a different story about a child having their first experience with an emergency, from their first fire to their first accident. This series introduces children to the ambulance, fire brigade and the police in a way that's fun to read but also allows children to understand what they can do in an emergency situation.

Amie Cawood is a paramedic based in Brisbane, Australia. Amie is passionate about helping others which is why she decided to create books for children about emergency services. As a hobby, Amie had begun writing kids' stories in between work shifts and typical family life. Growing up in the Aussie Bush surrounded by many Native Australian Animals and having experience helping kids in her job shaped the creation of her vision.

Meet the Heroes

One of the most charming parts of this series is the cast of native Australian characters that represent emergency services professionals. It helps to educate children on both native animals as well as what emergency services professionals may look like, based on their vehicle and uniform.

Children will fall in love with Ambo Kookie - the Kookaburra who features in My First Emergency on a Ferry, Fireman Rooey - the Kangaroo who features in My First Emergency on a Winters’ Night and Police Offer Emy - the Emu Who features in My First Emergency in the Neighbour. My First Emergency Series

So far, this series has Three incredible books, each featuring colourful illustrations and adorable characters. My First Emergency on a Ferry features a young boy who begins to have trouble with his breathing and his dad calls an ambulance. My First Emergency in the Neighbourhood is about a thief who tries to break into a family home. My First Emergency on a Winter’s Night is about a House fire and how we can practice fire safety. 

All 3 of these books are more than just stories! They are helpful tools for children to understand the importance of emergency services and what to do when they are faced with an emergency.

My First Emergency in the Neighbourhood

My First Emergency in the Neighbourhood is a story about a young boy called Harry. Harry and his family are invited to their neighbours house for a BBQ when all of a sudden they hear crashing and alarms coming from their house across the street. Harry's dad rings the police and that's when we meet Police Officer Emy the Emu and Police Dog Woolfie. Emy and Woolfie are able to investigate the situation and arrest the thief safely.

Children get to learn about the importance of knowing how to deal with a tense situation like a burglary and how they should respond. The adorable characters and bright illustrations help make the content more engaging and memorable for the young reader.

My First Emergency on the Ferry

My First Emergency on the Ferry is a story about a young boy called Sam. Sam loves superheroes! Sam and his dad are catching the Ferry to go watch the latest new superhero movie together. Sam struggles with a condition called Asthma and when he is on the ferry he begins to struggle breathing. This can be scary but Sam's dad knew exactly what to do and called the ambulance! When they got off the ferry the Ambulance was waiting for them with Ambo Kookie and her partner inside. They give him some medicine and take Sam to the hospital to see a Doctor.

My First Emergency on a Winter's Night

My First Emergency on a Winter's Night is a story about the Stanley family and their children Madeline and Riley. The Stanley family are having a cosy winter's night with hot chocolates before going to bed. Madeline and Riley are asleep when they get woken up by the sound of their smoke alarm! Thankfully, they knew exactly what to do. Madeline and Riley had practised a fire safety plan with their parents which meant they knew how to get out of the house quickly and safely. Dad has called the Fire Brigade and we meet Fireman Rooey. Rooey and his team put out the fire safely and made sure it didn't spread to the neighbour's houses! Everyone is safe.
